Fans were excited to know that the epic video game was going to be made into a movie. We are talking about Mortal Kombat. The news of the release of the movie in theatres left everyone excited and to know that it was coming out this year was like cherry on the cake, but now there seems to be another news added to this. The makers have officially announced that Mortal Kombat’s release has been delayed by one week.
Earlier set to release on the 16th of April, the movie will be releasing on the 23rd of April, both in theatres and on HBOMax. The decision was taken by Warner Bros as they felt the release of Mortal Kombat will hamper the release of their much anticipated Godzilla vs. Kong. The news comes a day before the release of Godzilla vs. Kong on HBO Max.
Reason behind this decision is said to be the success of Godzilla vs. Kong internationally. Film exhibitors have been optimistic about Godzilla vs. Kong and have also said that it can easily become the biggest movie of the year. The prediction hasn’t been wrong until now at least. The movie has racked up $121 million at the international box within just a few days of its release. The movie has done exceptionally well in China, as it collected $70 million in the opening weekend itself.
Warner Bros fear that releasing Mortal Kombat just now might hamper the business that is being put forward by Godzilla vs. Kong. To let both the movies do well in theatres, the decision of delaying the release of Mortal Kombat might play a very crucial role in racking up the profit from both of these movies.

Directed by Simon McQuoid, the movie is produced by James Wan.
