Legendary Indian actor Amitabh Bachchan, who is geared up for Ayan Mukerji’s highly anticipated film ‘Brahmastra’ co-starring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhat, will also be seen in an upcoming comedy drama movie titled ‘Goodbye’. The film will also be ‘Pushpa’ actress Rashmika Mandanna’s Hindi feature film debut and is slated to release in theatres on 7th October 2022. And earlier today, the makers unveiled the film’s official trailer.
The trailer starts off with an argument between the father-daughter protagonists (played by Amitabh Bachchan and Rashmika Mandanna). The goings-on take a drastic turn after the sudden demise of a family member. But instead of venturing into serious melodrama, the proceedings take an amusing and satirical turn replete with heated discussions amongst family members. And the film’s story apparently revolves around the deceased member’s funeral – that’s why the title.
The tone and theme of ‘Goodbye’ film’s trailer has brought back fond memories of Shakun Batra’s critically acclaimed family comedy drama ‘Kapoor & Sons’. In that film, a dysfunctional family is forced to reunite after the head of the family (Rishi Kapoor) suffers from a heart attack. The film also featured Sidharth Malhotra, Fawad Khan, Alia Bhatt, Ratna Pathak Shah, and Rajat Kapoor in pivotal roles.
Another recent film which revolved around a family member’s death was Seema Pahwa’s critically admired directorial debut ‘Ram Prasad Ki Tehrvi’. The film featured Naseeruddin Shah, Vikrant Massey, Konkona Sen Sharma, Parambrata Chatterjee, Vinay Pathak, Supriya Pathak, Manoj Pahwa, Vineet Kumar, etc.
Another interesting thing about ‘Goodbye’ is that the movie has been directed by Vikas Bahl, who is known for directing the 2014 critically acclaimed film ‘Queen’ starring Kangana Ranaut in the lead role. Few years later, he also directed Bollywood heartthrob Hrithik Roshan in the commercially successful venture ‘Super 30’. He also co-directed Zee5’s dark comedy series ‘Sunflower’ starring Sunil Grover.
Considering Vikas Bahl’s filmography coupled with Amitabh Bachchan’s screen presence, it would be interesting to see how ‘Goodbye’ eventually turns out to be. Besides Amitabh Bachchan and Rashmika Mandanna as the father-daughter duo, ‘Goodbye’ also features Neena Gupta, Sunil Grover, Pavail Gulati, and Ashish Vidyarthi, among other cast members.
After ‘Goodbye’ and ‘Brahmastra’, Amitabh Bachchan’s forthcoming acting projects include Sooraj Barjatya’s friendship-based drama ‘Uunchai’, Vikas Bahl’s action thriller ‘Ganpath’ co-starring Tiger Shroff and Kriti Sanon, and Prabhas’ big-ticket sci-fi flick ‘Project K’, amongst others.
