Well, people, brace yourselves because Gossip Girl is finally back. The reboot that was announced almost a year ago by streaming platform HBO Max, finally dropped the teaser trailer and premiere date for the upcoming series and the Gossip Girl reboot seems like it will be juicier and fancier than what we had years ago with the first Gossip Girl.
The new reboot will take viewers once again to the Upper East Side of New York City and into the lives of a new generation of New York private school teens and how their lives are now with the entry of the infamous social media, ruling everyone’s lives. The teaser takes you inside a lavish party and will give you a glimpse of all the characters that will make appearances in the show and along with them, the viewers will hear a familiar voice, the voice of our original Gossip Girl, as Kristen Bell makes a comeback as the narrator for the new series.
The Gossip Girl website that went dark 9 years ago, with the end of the first Gossip Girl series, comes alive once again, as someone gets behind the screens and starts revealing the scandalous and dirty secrets of these upper class elite teens of New York. The teaser ends with Kristen Bell’s famous phrase “XOXO”, leaving everyone intrigued as to what will go down in this brand new reboot.
It will be interesting to see who the new Gossip Girl is and what goes down, because the first series already revealed who the person was for all these years, by the end of the final season. The makers have mentioned that the reboot will focus on how teens and the younger generation is extremely and highly influenced by the entry of social media, almost to a point that social media itself is controlling its audience, where it should have been the other way round.
There were high speculations that old characters might come back in the reboot, but at this point besides Kristen Bell, no one seems to be making an appearance. But we never know, because this too is set in the universe that saw the event, which went down 8 years ago in the first Gossip Girl series. So, at this point speculations are still high.
The new Gossip Girl series includes fresh faces and a diverse cast. It has been noticed by fans that this time Gossip Girl won’t be whitewashed like it was in the earlier series. The actors involved are Jordan Alexander, Eli Brown, Thomas Doherty, Tavi Gevinson, Emily Alyn Lind, Evan Mock, Zion Moreno, Whitney Peak, and Savannah Lee Smith.
The brand new series will have 10 episodes and will start streaming from 8th of July on HBO Max. The show has been written by Joshua Safran, who also produces the show with Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage’s Fake Empire, Alloy Entertainment, Warner Bros. TV and CBS Television Studios.
Gossip Girl, which aired from 2007-2012, instantly became a hit amongst the viewers, especially the younger generation back then. The show propelled the careers of actors Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Penn Badgley, Ed Westwick, Chase Crawford and others. The show attained a cult status and was highly praised for introducing trendsetting fashion everywhere.
It will be interesting to see what this brand new batch of elite teenagers can bring to the audience and will it also attain cult status just like the first series. Well, only time will tell.
