Guadagnino Already Has A New Project In The Making?

It is fair to say that Italian film director and producer Luca Guadagnino has spent a good amount of time reigning over entertainment headlines this year. Following his breakout directorial venture ‘Call Me By Your Name’, this past month witnessed his biggest box-office opening ever, with the release of the remarkable fan-anticipated ‘Challengers’.

With multiple upcoming projects on the way, Guadagnino is back in the news again. This time around, for an adaptation film! Based on an early short novel ‘Queer’ by William S. Burroughs, an American writer and visual artist, the film stars Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey.

Set in Mexico City during the early 50s, the plot follows William Lee’s hopeless pursuit of desire from bar to bar in the American expatriate scene. As Lee breaks down, a maniacal voice of self-lacerating humor emerges. Expected to hit the festival circuit in late 2024, no further details about the project have been revealed yet.

Craig rose to international superstardom by playing the fictional secret agent James Bond for five installments in the film series, from ‘Casino Royale’, all the way up to ‘No Time to Die’. Starkey, on the other hand, was one of the breakout stars of Netflix’s adolescent teen thriller series ‘Outer Banks’.
