VK Prakash was one of the first Malayalam filmmakers to venture into the OTT space. He had directed several episodes of the ZEE5 horror show, Parchayee, based on Ruskin Bond’s ghostly tales.
His aforementioned OTT outing gave him all the tools required to embark on his own digital project. Oru Nalpathukarante Irupathonnukaari has been planned as a big scale project, which he will pitch to streaming platforms when the time comes.
Incidentally, it is VK Prakash’s former assistant Mridul Nair who is the creator of the first Malayalam web series, Instagraamam. The web series was in the news recently after its creator spoke out about the bias against Malayalam web series, prevalent among streaming platforms. Last heard, Instagraamam still hasn’t found any takers who will stream it on their platforms.
Let’s hope Priya Prakash Varrier’s first OTT project doesn’t meet the same fate.
