Troubles are far from over for prominent stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui and his controversial JioHotstar OTT show, Hafta Vasooli.
In the wake of the ongoing controversy surrounding India’s Got Latent and prominent figures Samay Raina and Ranveer Allahbadia, public demand for banning vulgar or offensive humour in the name of stand-up comedy is increasing with each passing day. As a result, calls for a ban on Hafta Vasooli are also growing.
The controversy surrounding Hafta Vasooli has undeniably taken an ugly turn. Notably, Advocate Amita Sachdeva has already filed a complaint against Munawar Faruqui’s show on JioHotstar, accusing him of hurting religious sentiments and promoting obscenity.
Screenshots posted by the advocate reveal demands for criminal charges against the web series, citing accusations of insulting various faiths, damaging cultural values, and negatively influencing young people and society.

If this is not vulgarity then Ranveer Allahbadia's comment was also not vulgar.

The rising public outcry and legal actions will likely lead to heightened scrutiny of OTT content in India, particularly comedy. This could force OTT platforms to become more cautious, implement stricter internal guidelines and use pre-screening processes to avoid similar controversies. This scenario could also promote the shift of Indian viewers towards more conservative and family-friendly content on OTT platforms.
Munawar Faruqui’s Hafta Vasooli is currently available to stream on JioHotstar. Stay tuned for more updates.
