Binged informed its readers about the upcoming tobacco warnings on OTT. There will be 30 Seconds warning played at the beginning and middle of all OTT content. This has come as a sort of discontent amongst both audience and filmmakers.
The reason behind it looks like a sort of overkill on the side of the regulators. Despite several warnings and universally acknowledged health hazards, the consumers of Tobacco remain unbothered.
Quoting Binged’s tweet about the same, Hansal Mehta wrote:
“Yes. The only reason tobacco products and smoking kill is our shows/films. By putting these tickers we will have healthy people who don’t smoke. Very progressive decision.
“This decision was made to protect people’s health and raise awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco.””
Needless to say, some people came in defense of the decision as they think such irritating warnings will have an effect on the way people consume tobacco.
Hansal Mehta recently gave an exceptionally good show on Netflix India called Scoop. The filmmaker has been known for voicing his opinions even if it doesn’t align with the popular idea.
Let’s wait to see how this decision is received once all OTT platforms start implementing it.
