Hansal Mehta’s much-talked-about Hindi film ‘Faraaz’ is finally releasing on OTT, much to the delight of the numerous fans of the director. The film will premiere on streaming giant Netflix at 11:32 pm tonight. Faraaz released in theatres in India on 3rd February, 2023, and received much appreciation from critics and audiences alike.
The odd timing of the release of ‘Faraaz’ on Netflix may have something to do with the timing of the attack on the Holey Artisan Bakery, Dhaka, Bangladesh, on which the story of ‘Faraaz’ is based. Or it could be the time at which Faraaz Hossain was killed by terrorists at the bakery. Faraaz Hossain is the real-life student on whom the movie ‘Faraaz’ is based. Whatever be the reason, Faraaz will premiere on Netflix at 11:32 pm tonight.
‘Faraaz’ is directed by acclaimed filmmaker Hansal Mehta, written by Ritesh Shah, Kashyap Kapoor and Raghav Kakkar, and produced by T-Series and Benaras Media Works. The film is centred on the horrific 2016 terrorist attack on the Holey Artisan Bakery in Dhaka, in which 29 people were killed, including 22 civilians, 2 police officers and 5 terrorists.
The movie tells the story of bravery of 20 year old Bangladeshi Faraaz Hossain, who, despite being allowed to walk free by the militants, refused to do so. He chose to stand by his two non-Bangladeshi friends who were still being held hostage by the heavily armed terrorists. In choosing loyalty over freedom, Faraaz became an exemplar of bravery, friendship and human values over everything else.
The character of Faraaz is played by newcomer Zahaan Kapoor in the film ‘Faraaz’. Zahaan Kapoor is the son of Kunal Kapoor and grandson of late actor Shashi Kapoor. Paresh Rawal’s son Aditya Rawal plays one of the terrorists in ‘Faraaz’. Juhi Babbar, Aamir Ali, Jatin Sarin, Pallak Lalwani, among others, form the rest of the cast.
