Highly versatile actress Rani Mukerji has turned 44 years old. The actress was extremely famous in the 2000s and made a big name in romantic films. But she is an enormously gifted actress who proved her acting skills in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Black”. Unfortunately, that gem is not streaming on any OTT platform in India.
Regardless, we have covered 5 underrated films of Rani Mukerji that you can stream.
Hey Ram– Voot/Jio Cinema
Many people are not aware but Shahrukh Khan has worked in a Tamil film called Hey Ram. It was directed by Kamal Hassan and had Hassan himself with Shahrukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, Hema Malini, Naseeruddin Shah and a lot more.
Although it was controversial, the film was a cinematic gem and definitely worth a watch.
Chalte Chalte– Netflix
Rani Mukerji became a part of this film after Aishwarya Rai walked out. The film had all the quintessential elements of a Shahrukh Khan romantic film but was unique in itself.
The film went against the normal fairy tallish romance and talked about the effect of financial brokerage on a happy going couple. Shahrukh Khan played a highly complicated character and nailed his part. Even Rani’s performance was unbelievably realistic and this romantic drama is a nice option for those who are not much comfortable watching a romantic film.
Saathiya– Prime Video
The film was released in 2002 and was a remake of a Tamil film. Mani Ratnam wrote the screenplay while Gulzar spelt magic on songs and dialogues.
The film is a great romantic drama but its core has to be the epic soundtrack. Despite a herculean competition from Devdas, the AR Rahman composed album won all the major awards deservedly. The intoxicating songs like Saathiya, Chupke Se is still a divine experience and one of the best in the 21st century.
No One Killed Jessica– Netflix
The film having Rani Mukerji and Vidya Balan has to be a milestone. It was released in the first week of January and still emerged as a super hit. Even though it didn’t have any big male star, it was not a bother as it came out to be a huge commercial success mainly due to the insane fan following of Balan in the early 2010s.
The film showed a completely new avatar of Rani Mukerji in which she was a perfect cast who carried her character with utmost brilliance.
Talaash: The Answer Lies Within- Netflix
This psychological thriller stars Aamir Khan with Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukerji in the lead role. The film was way ahead of its time and was graced with a beautiful album.
This is a highly unique concept that is rare to find in Bollywood. Although Rani’s performance was overshadowed by Aamir and Kareena, her performance was exceptionally brilliant and something worth remembering.
