Hindi film ‘Siya’ is a hard-hitting account of a young girl Siya, who is kidnapped and raped. The film tells the story of her fight for justice, as she pushes back against patriarchy, corruption and apathy in the Indian law and order system and society at large. The movie, produced by Drishyam Films, is directed by Manish Mundra, from a story written by Haider Rizvi. Drishyam Films owner Manish Mundra makes his directorial debut with ‘Siya’. Drishyam Films has earlier made films such as Newton, Masaan, Aankhon Dekhi, among others.
After making the rounds of various films festivals as well as releasing in theatres, ‘Siya’ is now gearing up to premiere on streaming. The ‘Siya’ OTT release date is 16th June, and the film will stream on ZEE5. Interestingly, Siya won the award for Best Debut Director at the UK Asian Film Festival 2023. It was also selected at the New York Indian Film Festival 2023 and Ottawa Indian Film Festival Awards.
Pooja Pandey stars as a small-town girl in Siya. The film, which also stars stellar actor Vineet Kumar Singh, is set in the backdrop of North India. Apart from focusing on Siya’s fight for justice after her rape, the film also shines a spotlight on the psychological, mental and physical trauma that a rape victim undergoes in a country like India. Its story is as much about the girl at the receiving end of a system bent upon denying her justice as about the vicious men who hold the reins of power and brazenly misuse it.
