The upcoming Apple TV+ series, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, has created quite a buzz among people. Its latest trailer was impressive. We do not know what to expect from the series in terms of story, but we should expect lots of excitement, thrill, action, and of course, monsters! In addition, the show’s first reviews have surfaced. Has Apple TV+ hit a home run with the forthcoming MonsterVerse entry? Let’s find out! But first, let’s talk about the show’s premise.
‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’ will take place in two different timelines. Its primary focus will be on the aftermath of Godzilla (2014), which revolved around the epic battle between Godzilla and other MUTOs (Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organisms) in the city of Los Angeles. That catastrophic event forces two siblings to uncover the truth about Monarch. Along the way, they discover that their long-lost father also shares a deep connection with the secret government agency. The show’s events will also take place during the 1950s, near the events of Kong: The Skull Island (2017). A handful of people, including Kurt Russell’s Lee Shaw and Anders Holm’s Bill Randa, know about what happened on Skull Island. Wyatt Russell will play the young version of Lee Shaw.
The question we must ask ourselves is why Apple has spent so much on the upcoming MonsterVerse project. Well, Apple TV+ is known to prefer quality over quantity. Since its inception, the streaming service has given high priority to prestige, unlike Netflix, which does not really care about a project’s quality. High viewership is what Netflix wants.
“We don’t make purely financial decisions about content. We try to find great content that has a reason for being,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook during the company’s Q1 earnings call last year.
Apple does not shy from throwing money at those things that may add more value to its offerings. Considering the Monarch series’ mammoth budget, it is safe to assume that the company has high hopes for the Kurt Russell starrer.
Speaking of home runs, it seems like Apple TV+ has somehow managed to hit the ball out of the park with ‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’. The series’ early reviews are mixed-to-positive, with praise directed at its visuals and performances. But it reportedly suffers from pacing issues and tonal inconsistencies. The series will premiere on November 17. Stay tuned for more updates.
