OTT platforms have been a boon not only for the audiences but also for many of the under the radar actors who used to struggle to get genuinely good projects. Many of us would agree that this is due to the inherent nepotism that takes place in the industry but another important factor is the kind of perception we had towards a certain sect of these actors.
It is nothing new that most of the shows on mainstream channels like Star Plus etc have created a lot of cringeworthy scenes over the years with morbid scripts, disastrous sound effects and even worse plot twists. While it may be true that this kind of content certainly isn’t worth any laurels many of the times the actors who are part of these projects have to face the backlash of such typecast roles.
Some of the most renowned actors like Shahrukh Khan and Irfan Khan have started their careers with TV shows itself but that was a different time when there was a lot of focus on creating different content rather than just churning out the same depressing Sas-Bahu stuff.
The OTT platforms have thus helped us uncover this mirage and understand the worth of some of the hidden gems in the TV industry such as Barun Sobti who captivated all of us with his performance in ASUR and Jennifer Winget who impressed us in Code M.
There have also been the likes of the late Sushant Singh Rajput, Amit Sadh and a few other who have made a successful career after starting their profession with TV roles but these have had to face more than a fair share of their problems.
We expect that with the rise of the viewership on OTT platforms Bollywood will finally give these actors a fair chance to showcase their talent
