While ‘The Book of Boba Fett‘ started off slow, the show has gone on to become yet another exciting Star Wars series. ‘The Mandalorian’ and the above mentioned ‘The Book of Boba Fett’ has been two of the best Star Wars projects released this century so far – and both of them were created by Jon Favreau. So, it just might be time for Disney and Lucasfilm to turn over the “creative reigns” of the Star Wars Universe to Favreau. The aforementioned filmmaker has proved his mettle through his MCU films and he has become good enough to be the Kevin Feige of the Star Wars Franchise.
While Feige had to develop the MCU from scratch, Favreau made the two shows around an existing universe, which at the time, was on a decline. ‘The Mandalorian‘ played a huge part in reviving the franchise and the show’s second season kick started right new star wars projects – a few of them already available for streaming. While Favreau doesn’t have Feige’s experience, they both have worked with each other closely and Favreau is more than capable to be the creative head of the entire space opera franchise.
After seeing the success of the MCU, many production companies decided to try their hand at franchise films. Many big name franchises tried to expand too fast and failed like the DC Extended Universe and the Dark Universe, while some like the Harry Potter and Fast & Furious Franchises have managed to flourish due to an existing fanbase. The Star Wars fanbase has only increased over the years and the decision to make an extended universe made sense – especially since a major portion of the Star Wars Universe remained unexplored. However, the third Star Wars trilogy was a mess – in some ways, a bigger flop than the prequel trilogy. While ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ was good enough for the franchise to kick start – the subsequent sequel movies (and spinoffs) almost destroyed this progress. As mentioned above, Jon Favreau‘s ‘The Mandalorian’ saved the franchise from certain oblivion.
