After the massive success of the Pirates Of The Caribbean film series and Jungle Cruise, Haunted Mansion proved to be a dud for The Walt Disney Co. The live-action film, based on another one of its popular Disneyland rides, ‘Haunted Mansion’ premiered in theatres on 28th July, and was a massive flop.
However, after the less than satisfactory performance of Haunted Mansion in theatres, the movie might just prove to be the lifesaver Disney Plus needs. The film is now gearing up to premiere on Disney Plus. 6th October is the streaming release date for Haunted Mansion on Disney Plus. The movie will look to cash in on the October Halloween fever in the US.
In recent days, Disney Plus has been reeling under loss of revenue, subscribers and more. Haunted Mansion’s release on the streaming platform is sure to be a much-needed attention grabber for Disney Plus. It’s set to be one of the most watched Halloween films this year – an important statistic for US streaming platforms.
‘Haunted Mansion’ is directed by Justin Simien, from a story written by Katie Dippold. It stars LaKeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Danny DeVito, Rosario Dawson, Chase W. Dillon and Daniel Levy, with Jamie Lee Curtis and Jared Leto as The Hatbox Ghost.
The movie tells the story of a woman and her son who enlist a motley crew of so-called spiritual experts to help them rid their home of supernatural squatters.
Other Disney movies that are based on popular Disneyland rides are the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise; the Dwayne Johnson – Emily Blunt starrer, Jungle Cruise; Tomorrowland; The Country Bears; Dinosaur, Mission To Mars, among others. Tower Of Terror, produced by and starring Scarlett Johansson, is currently in the works at Disney.
