The Spider-Man mania is sheathing the entire internet these days. Right? After the critical bombing of Eternals, the MCU fanbase has shifted its complete attention towards Spider-Man: No Way Home. And it looks like the hype for the upcoming Hawkeye series has been squashed between these mega-budget projects.
Even after delivering a fun and action-packed trailer, Hawkeye makers are unable to generate its necessary build-up. Apart from diehard Marvel nerds, viewers are not that enthralled about this forthcoming MCU instalment. Why is this happening? What are the reasons behind its lacklustre hype before its release? Check it out right here!
An unwinnable competition against No Way Home
The above heading pretty much sums up this entire scenario. Naturally, fans are captivated and sentimental about the upcoming Spider-Man entry. Ever since the news of all three Spideys coming together broke out, fans have been going absolute berserk. They all want to see Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland together on the big screen. Additionally, NWH treasures supervillains like Doctor Octopus, Green Goblin, Electro, Sandman, and Lizard from previous Spider-Man projects.
The pressure of being a worthy Disney+ MCU entry
The show has a colossal task of living up to the standards set by previous MCU entries on the Disney+ streaming service. WandaVision was a completely different instalment from the rest of the MCU shows. But it provided the much-needed inventiveness and freshness to the entire canon. FATWS perfectly balanced its action with political tensions. And Loki just knocked it right out of the park!
Hawkeye: The least famous Avenger from the original six
We know this fact sounds a little harsh but we cannot deny it either. Iron Man was a hit right from the very inception of the MCU. Hulk is already a globally known superhero. The prominence of Thor and Captain America augmented with every entry of their respective franchises. As for Black Widow, its theatrical $200 million budget release and the charm of Scarlett Johansson provided a good (if not fully satisfying) closure on Natasha’s arc.
However, Clint Barton has been sidelined mostly in numerous MCU projects. We can take Age of Ultron as an exceptional case where makers explored Barton’s personal life and family. Fans needed his stand-alone project a long time ago. Now, with so many Avengers in the bundle, it is hard to give proper attention to Hawkeye.
Releasing at the wrong time
Yes, the trailer showed Barton celebrating Christmas with his family after the infamous blip. And Christmas certainly feels like a perfect time to dispatch this series. But we can’t neglect No Way Home’s release either. The impending Spidey entry has already started crushing every bit of Hawkeye’s hype. And it will continue (not intentionally) to do so.
The first two episodes of the Hawkeye series will premiere on November 24 this year. The remaining episodes will be released every Wednesday on the Disney+ streaming platform. It stars Jeremy Renner, Hailee Steinfeld, Vera Farmiga, Alaqua Cox, and other talents.
