HBO has officially pulled the plug on Sam Levinson’s controversial series, The Idol, meaning that the show won’t be getting a second season.
The Idol is now considered one of the worst HBO shows ever. It came out in June this year but was not received positively by the critics. The five-episode drama series received a poor 18% score on Rotten Tomatoes, based on over 100 reviews. Plus, its low viewership made things worse. All these scenarios forced HBO to cancel the series after one season, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
HBO also confirmed the news with the following statement:
“The Idol was one of HBO’s most provocative original programs, and we’re pleased by the strong audience response. After much thought and consideration, HBO, as well as the creators and producers have decided not to move forward with a second season. We’re grateful to the creators, cast, and crew for their incredible work.”
The Abel Tesfaye (The Weeknd) starrer revolves around a troubled but talented young pop star, Jocelyn (played by Lily-Rose Depp), who has a complicated relationship with a charming self-help guru and cult leader, Tedros (played by Tesfaye). Apart from these two, the show had Suzanna Son, Troye Sivan, Jane Adams, Hank Azaria, and other acting talents.
You can stream The Idol on Jio Cinema. Stay tuned for more updates.
