HBO is planning a sequel to the 1996 hit film, ‘A Time To Kill’. The sequel is titled ‘A Time For Mercy’, and will see actor Matthew McConaughey reprise his role of hard-nosed, relentless lawyer Jake Brigance from the original film. ‘A Time For Mercy’ will be based on John Grisham’s bestselling novel of the same name, which is a sequel to his novel ‘A Time To Kill’, the base for the 1996 film.
The only difference is that, this time around, the project will be a limited series instead of a film. Matthew McConaughey is in advanced talks with the broadcaster, and things should be finalised soon.
The 1996 film ‘A Time To Kill’ had been a runaway hit, establishing Matthew McConaughey’s position as a legit star. His character, lawyer Jake Brigance, became one of the most iconic characters in legal and courtroom dramas – the genre of choice for John Grisham, a lawyer himself.
In ‘A Time For Mercy’, the novel of which was launched in 2020, Brigance takes up the case of a sixteen-year-old boy who’s been accused of killing the deputy Sheriff of the town. As Brigance digs deeper, he finds there’s a lot to the case that isn’t visible outwardly.
The rest of the cast and crew for ‘A Time For Mercy’ is yet to be finalised. Stay tuned to Binged.com for fresh updates on this news.
