HBO swept all the major awards at last night’s 72nd Prime Time Emmy Awards, with its flagship shows ‘Watchmen’ and ‘Succession’ scoring crucial wins for the content giant.
A proud moment for HBO was Zendaya’s win as Best Lead Actress In A Drama drama, for her role in ‘Euphoria’. With this win, she became the youngest actress ever in the history of the Emmys, to win the Best Lead Actress for a drama series.
Another big winner of the night was ‘Schitt’s Creek’, which swept the Emmys in the comedy category. In the process, it created history by winning 9 Emmys, the most wins in a single year for a comedy. It was a gratifying achievement for tiny Pop TV, the owner of the property.
‘Succession’ won five awards, including best drama series. With its two awards in the Creative Arts Emmys, that makes it a total of 7 nods for Succession.
The Prime Time Emmy Awards 2020 night was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel at an empty STAPLES Centre in Los Angeles, with nominees and winners joining in virtually.
Prolific creator Tyler Perry was bestowed the Governors Award, which recognizes extraordinary or cumulative accomplishment in TV.
