The on-screen NoHo Hank, Anthony Harrigan, has broken all our hearts by affirming that HBO’s Barry will end after Season 4. He recently appeared in a podcast with the Hollywood At Home With The Creative Coalition. While being interviewed about the upcoming season, the actor confirmed that Season 4 would be the final entry in the acclaimed dramedy series. Additionally, Harrigan revealed that the new season might come out in April or May next year.
Barry debuted in 2018 and became an instant global hit. The show received critical acclaim for its dark humour, direction, writing, performances, and originality. Also, it has received 44 Emmy nominations so far. The leading man, Bill Hader, has bagged ‘Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series’ Emmy twice for the show.
Why is it good that ‘Barry’ is ending after Season 4?
HBO is yet to comment on Season 4 being the last entry. But if Harrigan has confirmed it, then we may get an official announcement from the network soon.
The last season ended with Barry getting arrested by cops. Gene successfully lures him into his trap, resulting in his arrest. It means that our ‘not-so-good’ protagonist won’t be able to execute his secret hitman missions and attend his acting classes anymore.
This massive turn of events has made it clear that fans are going to get one hell of a final season. Also, it is crucial to end Barry Berkman’s story properly. How many times can he escape from his past deeds? There comes a time when a character’s journey ends. And Barry’s time has come. It is better to wrap up the series on a satisfying note rather than continuing it just for the sake of viewership and awards. It’s like what Hader told Vulture in his interview in June this year:
“There’s only so long a guy can get away with this. I know I feel watching shows sometimes, ‘They’re trying to keep the thing going and now it’s getting ridiculous to keep the thing going.’”
Yes, fans will miss Barry if it ends after Season 4. But it is good that the series is not overstaying its welcome. You can stream the show on Disney+ Hotstar. Stay tuned for more updates.
