HBO’s GoT Spinoff Show ‘The Hedge Knight’ Finds Its Dunk & Egg

HBO’s series on George R. R. Martin’s novella ‘Tales Of Dunk And Egg’ are now closer to reality than ever. After huge buzz surrounding the next Game Of Thrones spinoff series from content giant HBO, we finally have an exciting update on the same. HBO has finally signed on the lead cast of its upcoming series ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight’, the new Game Of Thrones spinoff show.

Promising actor Peter Claffey (Bad Sisters) and the young Dexter Sol Ansell (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes) have been cast in the lead roles of Dunk and Egg respectively in the series, which is based on the first from the George R. R. Martin’s trilogy of novellas titled ‘Tales of Dunk and Egg’.

The new series ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight’ will be based on George R. R. Martin’s first novella, The Hedge Knight. Two other novellas ‘The Sworn Sword’ and ‘The Mystery Knight’ exist in the ‘Tales Of Dunk And Egg’ universe. George R. R. Martin has plans to go upto nine novellas.

The story of ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight’ takes place around 90 years before the events of Game Of Thrones. It follows the youthful adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and Aegon V Targaryen (Egg), much before they assumed their positions of authority in ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’, the books on which Game Of Thrones is based on.

Before Dunk became Ser Duncan the Tall, Lord Commander of the Kingsguard; and Egg became King Aegon V Targaryen, the two set off on swashbuckling adventures, with Egg playing squire to Dunk, while keeping his real identity a secret even from Dunk.

George R. R. Martin himself is writing and executive producing A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight. Ira Parker is helping him write the series. Parker had also been part of the writers’ room for House Of The Dragon.

The official description of ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight’ reads – “Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends”.

HBO has been looking to build on the Game Of Thrones franchise ever since the show ended. The first such spinoff series ‘House Of The Dragon’ tasted success upon release. Season 2 of the show premieres in June this year. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight is set for a late 2025 release.

With the GoT spinoff shows, HBO hopes to gain new subscribers by giving viewers more of what they loved in the epic drama Game Of Thrones.
