HBO’s ‘The Last Of Us’ Behind Five Netflix Shows In Nielsen Top 10

HBO’s globally acclaimed video game to small screen series adaptation ‘The Last Of Us’ recently became the first ever series from 2023 to be included amongst the top 250 TV shows of all time on IMDb. Ever since its premiere on 15th January on HBO Max and on 16th January on Disney+ Hotstar in India, ‘The Last Of Us’ series has got a big thumbs-up from audiences and critics alike.

And now, HBO’s ‘The Last Of Us’ series has unsurprisingly found its way amongst Nielsen’s latest overall streaming top ten list (for 16th to 22nd January week). However, despite its humongous fan following across the globe, it was rather surprising on a first glance that the show is trailing behind five Netflix titles on the Nielsen top ten list. The reason might be that only the first two episodes were considered which accounted for a still impressive 837 million minutes of viewing in the US.

The top five Netflix titles on the Nielsen top ten overall list are ‘Ginny & Georgia’ (1.8 billion minutes), ‘That 90s Show’ (1.59 billion), ‘The Walking Dead’ (1.1 billion minutes), ‘Vikings: Valhalla’ (975 million minutes), and ‘Cocomelon’ (885 million minutes). And just behind ‘The Last Of Us’ is Netflix’s acclaimed horror comedy series ‘Wednesday’ with 711 million minutes of viewing.

Coming back to ‘The Last Of Us’ series, until now, five out of a total of nine episodes have been released. And the show has already been renewed for a second season. The plot revolves around two characters Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and is set in the backdrop of a post-apocalyptic world full of infected creatures. The basic premise is that Joel, a hardened smuggler, is hired to transport a teenager Ellie across the country, while protecting her from omnipresent dangers.
