There are less than just three weeks to go for the arrival of HBO’s eagerly anticipated small-screen series adaptation of the superhit PlayStation game ‘The Last of Us’. In the US, the post-apocalyptic drama series will premiere on the HBO and HBO Max platforms from 15th January 2023 onwards. In India, ‘The Last of Us’ series will be available on the Disney+ Hotstar OTT platform. As far as the release date in India is concerned, the series is expected to start streaming from 16th January onwards on Disney+ Hotstar. Although official confirmation is still awaited in this regard.
The original survival-horror game ‘The Last of Us’, released in the year 2013, revolved around two principal characters Joel and Ellie and was set in the backdrop of a post-apocalyptic world full of infected creatures. The basic premise of the game was that Joel, a hardened smuggler, is hired to transport a teenager Ellie across the country, while protecting her from omnipresent dangers.
In the upcoming ‘The Last of Us’ HBO series, ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘Narcos’ actor Pedro Pascal will be essaying the role of Joel. Besides Pedro Pascal, the horror-adventure television series will also feature his ‘Game of Thrones’ co-star Bella Ramsey alongside Gabriel Luna as an ex-soldier and Joel’s younger brother Tommy.
Written and directed by Naughty Dog’s ‘Neil Druckmann’ (the man behind another blockbuster game ‘Uncharted’), ‘The Last of Us’ is regarded as one of the best games ever produced and boasts of a whopping Metacritic score of 95.
The first season of HBO’s ‘The Last of Us’ series will have nine episodes. It is also known that the opening episode of the ten-part show has been directed by Russian filmmaker Kantemir Balagov.
