Heeramandi Trailer: Grandeur Couldn’t Hide Poor Plot!

It was late 2021 when Netflix announced the next project of Sanjay Leela Bhansali which would be Heeramandi. The director was coming to any digital platform for the first time ever and that too in a series platform.

All the announcements related to Heeramandi so far have been on a grand scale. Right from the poster to first looks, songs and even release dates for that matter.

Now that less than a month is remaining for the series, Netflix has finally released the trailer.

As you may already know, Heeramandi stars Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Sharmin Segal, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Aditi Rao Hydari and Richa Chaddha.

Apart from these ladies, it also stars Shekhar Suman, Fardeen Khan and others.

Let’s talk about the trailer. Heeramandi is set in present-day Pakistan which was earlier known for elite courtesans. The setting is that of British India and the partition was yet to happen.

The trailer has done the typical Bhansali elements right. Grand sets, opulent costumes, larger than life music and so many more things.

But what about the soul? Is it tempting enough or is it just about the catfight between Sonakshi Sinha and Manisha Koirala?

Well, it depends whether you love drama or not. Usually, the characters of Bhansali are not so shallow but they are definitely very dramatic. If you think you can manage with that, go for it.

However, the plot could not come out as prominently as it should have been. The story seems a grand treatment of nationalism and love. Both these themes were also there in Begum Jaan. Also, the dialogue is not at all catchy. Even Gangubai Kathiawadi had some great one-liners but there is nothing as such in Heeramandi.

The trailer could be far far better. But, let’s keep hope in Bhansali because even Bajirao Mastani had a weak trailer but the film came out to be jaw-dropping. Fingers crossed for Heeramandi.

Heeramandi is set for release on the 1st of May.

Let’s see what the actual series has to offer.
