Hellboy Meets Autobot: Ron Perlman Joins Transformers 6 As Optimus Primal

Move aside Autobots and Decepticons, here comes the Maximals to join the Transformer’s roster. Yes, you heard it right, the sixth of the main live-action Transformers film series, seventh overall installment of the series and a direct sequel to Bumblebee, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is packing up some super-heavy gears and the maximals are one of them.

Now to make things even heavier, earlier today we learnt that Ron Perlman, the former Hellboy, has joined the cast of the newest Transformer film as the voice of Optimus Primal. But make no mistake, Optimus Primal is not an Autobot like the legendary leader Optimus Prime. Primal is a member of Maximals who are believed to be the descendants of the Autobots, controlling Cybertron under the Pax Cybertronia and in many ways, they share traits with their Autobot ancestors. Maximals are primarily a civilian race and committed to upholding the peaceful, democratic values of their forebears.

But who exactly is Optimus Primal? Now, if you are familiar with the Transformer-verse, you may know that Optimus Primal is a member of Generation 1 continuity family which is the biggest, oldest, and longest-running continuity family in the Transformers universe. He was a captain of an exploration ship when he and his crew were diverted off-course to pursue a stolen Predacon ship under the leadership of Megatron, the great Decepticon. He is extremely committed to the Maximal codes of honor and moral judgment.

Apart from Perlman, the legendary Peter Cullen is returning to reprise his role of Optimus Prime along with Bumblebee for the seventh Transformer movie. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will also feature Anthony Ramos, Dominique Fishback and Lauren Vélez in the supporting roles. The film is being directed by Steven Caple Jr. of Creed II fame whereas the creator of the franchise, Michael Bay will be producing the film in association with
Skydance Media, Entertainment One, Di Bonaventura Pictures, New Republic Pictures and Platinum Dunes.

Now, the more time passes , we hope the more we will get new updates on the casting of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts but we must say, till now it looks extremely punchy and powerful. And just to let you know, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is scheduled to release on June 24, 2022 theatrically so it’s just around 360 days to go folks to meet our favorite robots!
