‘Natsamrat‘ is a Marathi Movie that released in 2016. It is directed by veteran actor and director Mahesh Manjrekar. It has Nana Patekar in the lead role and has other actors like Medha Manjrekar, Vikram Gokhale, Ajit Parab, Shridhar Limaye in important roles.
The movie is an adaptation of V.V Shirwadkar’s drama of the same name, the screenplay is written by Mahesh Manjrekar, Abhijeet Deshpande and Kiran Yadnopavit.
Natsamrat tells the story of a veteran theater actor Ganpat Ramachandra Belwalkar, played by Nana Patekar, who earned the title of Natsamrat with his powerful roles, specially in Shakespearean plays. He divides his whole wealth to his children after his retirement and he is left homeless. Only his wife and best friend can understand him, otherwise he is a very complex character. His abusive language and frank behaviour is not liked by his son and daughter-in-law and that creates a conflict between Ganpat and them.
A heart breaking episode follows when his best friend Rambhau, played by Vikram Gokhale, rebukes him for leaving him in his last days. There is a very hearty conversation followed by a Krishna-Karna Samvad from a play that impresses Ganpat very much and he wishes to grant his friend his last wish.
The film has a very solid script and impressive performances from the supporting actors. Nana Patekar’s acting is magical here and you will feel every word he says in the movie. The visuals are beautiful and the cinematography is handled by Ajith V. Reddy. It is edited by Paresh Manjrekar and the music is composed by Ajit Parab.
