There are many movies that are so simplistic and subtle in their style of storytelling that they are not hyped too much and miss public attention most of the time. But there are many hidden gems that need to be watched and acknowledged by people. ‘Dear Dad‘ is one of them.
‘Dear Dad’ is written and directed by Tanuj Bhramar and stars Arvind Swamy and teen actor Himanshu Sharma as the leads. Ekavali Khanna, Aman Uppal, Bhavika Bhasin play other important characters. It is the coming-of-age story of a father son relationship.
Nitin is a 45 year old father of a teenager Shubham. Nitin is homosexual and is struggling to let his son know about it. His marriage is breaking and Shubham has no idea why that is happening. Nitin goes by car to drop his son to the boarding school where he stays and hopes that he will be able to tell him on the way. But a misunderstanding follows and the distance between his son and him grows even bigger. Nitin tries hard to make up for it but Shubham is too hostile to him.
This is the third Hindi film of Arvind Swamy and he has done a wonderful job here. The beauty of the film is in its simplicity. It goes on without any hurry but is engaging too. There is no rush and there are very subtle turns and twists in the film. The scenes are shot beautifully, the road scenes and the hilly areas are like a treat for the eyes. The cinematographer Mukesh G. has done a very good job here. Raghav-Arjun and Ujjwal Kashyap have composed the music for the film.
The film is available to watch for free on Zee5, if you have not watched it yet now is the time. It is a feel-good film that will leave you with a smile at the end and you will definitely not regret watching it.
