Akshay Kumar’s ‘Soorarai Pottru’ Hindi remake has now got a release date and once again the debates have begun. The yet to be titled ‘Soorarai Pottru’ remake will release in theatres on 1st September 2023 and is helmed by Sudha Kongara who also directed the original Tamil version.
And with the announcement came the sharp public judgements questioning the film. The remake issue has long been a concern for many, who consider it to be unnecessary, lacking originality and a waster of resources.
Talking specifically about ‘Soorarai Pottru’ Hindi remake it seems more so redundant since the Hindi dub of the original titled as ‘Udaan’ is already available for streaming on Prime Video since quite some time now and has been viewed by many.
Apart from this there’s the matter of Akshay Kumar’s recent unsuccessful run. The ‘Khiladi’ star has some big credits to his name but for the past couple of years his films have neither worked much in theatres nor on OTT. Disappointed with it all, many now believe ‘Soorarai Pottru’ remake is going to be yet another disaster.
Considering all these factors, is ‘Soorarai Pottru’ Hindi remake actually worth the efforts and resources? The logical answer will be a big “NO” and if Akshay Kumar fails to give a newness to the film his fans are most probably up another huge let down.
