Here’s An Emotional Bengali Drama On Hoichoi For Your Weekend Watch

If you like to watch Bengali movies, here is a nice recommendation for you. You must be familiar with the works of Srijit Mukherjee, the filmmaker who has directed films like ‘Baishe Srabon’ or ‘Chotushkone’. He has also directed Hindi films like ‘Sherdil’ and ‘Begum Jaan’. His ‘Uma’ is an underrated and beautiful piece of art.

‘Uma’ tells the story of an NRI father who wants his ailing daughter to see the famous Durga Puja of Kolkata at least once. The daughter, named Uma, is soon to die and will not live long enough to see the actual Puja. So her father takes the help of a failed movie director to recreate the Puja all over the city at a time when it is not supposed to happen. There is huge resistance from various kinds of people and you will have to watch the movie to know if Uma could finally see the Durga Puja or not.

The film is rooted very much to Bengali culture and takes its life from the nostalgia around Kolkata and Puja. There are exquisitely beautifully written songs by Anupam Roy and the shots are well defined. Jishu Sengupta plays the lead role, along with her own daughter Sara Sengupta, playing Uma. The chemistry is, obviously, beyond amazing. There are talented actors like Anjan Dutta, playing the filmmaker, and Anirban Bhattacharya, Babul Supriyo, Srabanti Chatterjee in other important roles.

If you like emotional dramas, ‘Uma’ is the film you are looking for. Do not miss it at any cost. Go watch it this weekend on Hoichoi.
