Apple TV+ joined the OTT race in late 2019 and already has presence in about 100 countries. Moreover, after Tom Hanks’ World War II drama, Greyhound’s astounding success the platform is honing its game of content acquisition.
Apple TV+ recently signed a first-look multi year deal with Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way Productions. This comes in addition to DiCaprio collaborating with Apple for upcoming Martin Scorsese-directed “Killers of the Flower Moon” along side Robert De Niro. DiCaprio’s Appian Way is also producing Elisabeth Moss starrer ‘Shining Girls’ to come on Apple TV+.
Other than DiCaprio, Apple also has a first-look multi-year deal with renowned Hollywood director Ridley Scott. Moreover, Apple TV+ joined hands with Robert Downey Jr.’s production company Team Downey for a straight-to-series deal for a detective drama. Not to forget, Apple has roped in Oprah Winfrey too for a new original series ‘The Oprah Conversation’.
Given the way Apple TV+ has been inking major deals with big hot shot names of the industry, it has made it very clear that it is going to give a tough competition to its peers. These deals are a mirror to the fact that Apple has already started to gain its ground in the OTT world, despite a late entry.
Apple has all it needs to make it big in this growing industry. Whether it’s the finances, technical prowess or brand name and trust, it has it all. And the above deals prove that stars are also eager to partner with the platform, giving it that attractive feature needed to lure in the subscribers. Although the platform is still in the budding phase it cannot be denied that its there to stay and raise the bar for other OTTs.
