SPOILER WARNING!
Blue Beetle is out now! The latest Xolo Mariduena starrer has earned a fantastic response from both critics and viewers who have watched the film. Though, the film is destined to bomb at the global box office, thanks to the likes of Shazam 2 and The Flash. It seems like superhero fans have lost their faith in the last remnants of the DCEU. Nonetheless, Blue Beetle was a refreshing addition to the superhero franchise. It had several good moments, and one of them was its post-credits scene, which revealed that Ted Kord was alive. Kord is the second Blue Beetle in the comics.
In his recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Blue Beetle helmer Angel Manuel Soto disclosed that they mentioned Ted Kord in the film in case DC or Warners Bros Discovery decides to pursue the character in the future.
Apart from Kord, Soto is also interested in adding Booster Gold to the Blue Beetle sequel, if it ever happens. “We had written it down [in the script]. We knew that was what we wanted our story to have,” Soto said. “We all love Ted Kord and Booster Gold, and knowing that James Gunn also has plans for Booster Gold, it felt like the right thing for us to continue with.”
In the comics, Booster Gold and Blue Beetle have a strong bond of friendship and have often teamed up with each other for all sorts of troubles or adventures.
“So, whether that is Booster Gold or Ted Kord or if it is both of them [together], the possibility exists and it is something that we want to entertain,” the director added.
In late January this year, both Gunn and Peter Safran revealed their interest in making Booster Gold a part of DCU. The character will make his live-action debut through the upcoming Max (HBO) series. According to some rumors, the casting process for Booster Gold is well underway.
Creation of comic book writer Dan Jurgens, Booster Gold is a time-traveling superhero from the 25th century who arrives in the present with the help of advanced technologies. Soon, he becomes a prominent superhero, thanks to his extensive knowledge of futuristic technologies and important historical events.
Blue Beetle is currently running in theatres worldwide. Stay tuned for more updates.
