Negotiations between the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers and the actors’ union collapsed on Wednesday following a chaotic 12-day period of extended discussions. The SAG-AFTRA National Board voted for a strike after the talks between the AMPTP and the actors’ union reached no satisfactory conclusion. It seems like a strike is imminent, which may force the union to immediately prohibit its 160,000 members from working on all scripted film and TV projects.
The WGA strike has already halted the production of numerous film and TV projects. Now, the SAG-AFTRA strike will prohibit all of its talent from becoming a part of overseas productions.
Several online reports have revealed that Roland Emmerich’s highly anticipated series, Those About to Die, completed shooting with Anthony Hopkins in Italy several days prior in anticipation of the strike.
HBO’s White Lotus may become the victim of the SAG-AFTRA strike. Its production of Season 3 is scheduled to take place in Thailand. The actors’ strike could complicate the schedules of the show’s talents in the future. In addition, the ongoing productions of other projects, such as Gladiator 2, starring Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal, and Mortal Kombat 2 may get halted.
The filming of Netflix’s ‘Emily in Paris’ Season 4 was scheduled to take place in Paris in early fall. However, the shoot got delayed due to the writers strike. The SAG-AFTRA strike may delay the filming even further. Stay tuned for more updates.
