Applause Entertainment’s Scam 1992 has been winning accolades ever since it premiered on SonyLIV. The appreciation it has received from viewers has helped it to power its way to the top of IMDb ratings, becoming the highest-rated Indian show on the rating website. Not only that, the word of mouth advertising it has garnered has catapulted it to the top of the list of all-time best Indian shows on the basis of word of mouth talk.
The super success of Scam 1992 prompted its director, the acclaimed National Award-winning filmmaker Hansal Mehta, to post a long message on Twitter, thanking Applause Entertainment and SonyLIV for giving him the freedom and leeway to make Scam 1992 in his own way. The heartfelt and emotional post is an eye-opener of sorts and a lesson for aspiring filmmakers who wish to achieve success in cinema and web entertainment.
Said Hansal Mehta on Twitter, “The value of producers who do not impose unnecessary wisdom, market data, big stars, and formulaic story devices cannot be more vindicated than by the success of Scam 1992. Facilitate your creative team – not with money but with freedom and see the results. Very grateful for this.”
He further added, “We made this show with belief, passion, and conviction. With an overbearing producer or platform, none of this would be possible. The best directors, technicians, and creative professionals are rendered powerless by the lack of freedom and trust. Trust your team. They will deliver. Nurture them, don’t teach them. Have faith in talent, not in the formula. Rely on your heart, not just numbers. Invest in stories, not in stars.”
Each word by Hansal Mehta rings so true, especially in today’s world when a glut of content arrives on the multitude of streaming platforms, and most sink without a trace.
