If you love Marvel and think that Kang the Conqueror is the main villain in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, then it is best to hold your horses for a bit. The recent trailer showed Jonathan Majors’ Kang in his warrior variant form, different from what we saw in the Loki series. But is he Scott Lang’s main adversary this time? What about MODOK or Bill Murray’s undisclosed character? Here’s what we know about this scenario so far.
In 2015, Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) faced off against Yellowjacket (Corey Stoll), saved his daughter, and reappeared in the real world after getting trapped in the quantum realm. Then, we saw him confronting Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), along with Wasp (Evangeline Lilly), to save Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) from the quantum realm.
Now, poor Scott Lang has to tackle not one but three different foes in the upcoming MCU instalment. First, we have Kang (obviously). It is unclear if he is the main villain in Ant-Man 3. But we do know that he is the next big baddie in MCU after Thanos. The character will play a much bigger role in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty compared to Quantumania.
Kang’s real name is Nathaniel Richards. He is known to create several different variants of himself in the comics, including Rama-Tut and Iron Lad. One of his variants made a live-action debut in the Disney+ Loki series, starring Tom Hiddleston. In the season finale, Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) killed ‘He Who Remains’, wreaking all sorts of havoc that we are beginning to witness in the MCU. During the final moments, we see Loki returning to the TVA and seeing different statues of the same man. It was clear that the God of Mischief accidentally entered another timeline or universe.
Majors recently spoke to Collider about playing multiple versions of Kang:
“I think the thing about Kang, even the comic books, he contains multitudes. For me, it’s a great exploration of myself, just to figure out how much of myself can I explore and share? That’s the opportunity that Kang and He Who Remains offers.”
What about MODOK?
MODOK stands for Mental/Mechanised/Mobile Organism Designed Only for Killing. George Tarleton, a former employee at A.I.M (Advanced Idea Mechanics), was the first-ever MODOK. He conducted a substantial mutagenic experiment on himself to increase his intelligence. Tarleton got what he wanted, but at the cost of horribly disfiguring his body. Also, he gained a freakishly overdeveloped head on top of his stunted body. This scenario forced him to use a hoverchair (also called the Doomsday Chair) for mobility. Furthermore, he kills his creators and takes control of the entire organisation.
Marvel Studios is yet to reveal who will play MODOK in Ant-Man 3. Although, many fans believe that Patton Oswalt may return to voice the supervillain character after the 2021 Hulu series.
Is Bill Murray Playing Krylar in Ant-Man 3?
Bill Murray’s role in Quantumania has not been confirmed, though many believe that the Ghostbusters actor will play Krylar in the forthcoming MCU project.
Krylar is not a prominent character in Marvel Comics. That’s why it is best to expect that Murray’s character will not be the primary antagonist in Ant-Man 3.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will come out in theatres globally on February 17, 2023. Stay tuned for more updates.
