Here’s What We Know About X-Men ‘97 Season 2 So Far: Release Date & Plot

Oh, dear! These two words perfectly capture the overall spirit of the finale of X-Men ‘97 Season 1. Given how the first season culminated, Season 2 will arrive for sure. And it may come out sooner than expected. As per the latest updates, Season 2 has already been recorded and is currently in the editing stage. This means that the sophomore entry may arrive on the Disney+ streaming platform in 2025.

As for the plot, Season 2 will serve as a direct continuation of Season 1’s finale. The latter, titled ‘Tolerance is Extinction: Part III’, shows X-Men getting trapped in time, after saving the world from Bastion’s attacks. As a result, Jean and Cyclops find themselves in 3960 A.D., a desolate future where they encounter young Nathan, Mother Askani, and the rest of the survivors. On the other hand, other X-Men (Nightcrawler, Beast, Rogue, Professor Charles Xavier, and Magneto) reach Ancient Egypt (3000 B.C.), where they meet En Sabah Nur, who becomes Apocalypse in the future.

In addition, Season 1 ended with a post-credits scene, showing Apocalypse carrying one of Gambit’s playing cards in present-day Genosha. This teases the return of Gambit as one of the four primary followers of Apocalypse. Gambit sacrificed himself to save Rogue and the rest of the Genosha from Master Mold and his Sentinels in Episode 5. Bastion orchestrated this attack.

Based on the cliffhanger ending of Season 1, Season 2 will likely focus heavily on Apocalypse. Furthermore, Gambit may return as one of Apocalypse’s four horsemen. Moreover, Bastion’s demise appears to be temporary, and he may reemerge as a significant threat in Season 2. Perhaps he will even join forces with Apocalypse in their quest to destroy the X-Men and enslave humanity for good. Meanwhile, we should not forget about Bishop and Forge, who remain dedicated to rescuing the X-Men trapped in time.

The majority of the voice cast from Season 1 will return for the next season, featuring talents like Ray Chase (Cyclops), Jennifer Hale (Jean Grey), Alison Sealy-Smith (Storm), Cal Dodd (Wolverine), J. P. Karliak (Morph), Lenore Zann (Rogue), George Buza (Beast), A. J. LoCascio (Gambit), Holly Chou (Jubilee), Ross Marquand (Professor Charles Xavier), Matthew Waterson (Magnet0), and more.
