This Diwali is turning out to be a star-studded blockbuster fest that seems to be getting bigger by the day! The major scheduled Kollywood theatrical releases currently are Silambarasan’s ‘Maanaadu‘ and Rajinikanth’s ‘Annaatthe’, though there is a strong buzz that Vikram’s ‘Mahaan’ is also looking to hit screens during the same time. The biggest news of today however, is that the Arya-Vishal starrer ‘Enemy’ is the latest to join the race! The makers announced that the film has received a UA certification from the censor board and is all ready for a Diwali release.
Directed by Anand Shankar, ‘Enemy’ features Vishal and Arya in the lead with Mrinalini Ravi, Mamta Mohandas, and Prakash Raj in important roles. With the anticipation surrounding the Arya-Vishal duo and the film touted to be an out-and-out action flick, ‘Enemy’ is expected to do pretty well at the box office. The earlier scheduled release date was October 14th, on the occasion of Dussehra. There were strong rumours doing the rounds for a while that the makers were looking at pushing the release date and also considering a direct-to-OTT release. However, the rumours have been put to rest following an official announcement from the makers earlier this evening.
Moving the release date from Dussehra to Diwali may not prove to be a smart move and could endanger the film’s fate, since the only major film releasing on Dussehra is the Arya-Raashi Khanna starrer ‘Aranmanai 3’, whereas the Diwali period is loaded with some much-awaited blockbusters featuring some huge stars. Competing with three to four other releases, especially one with superstar Rajinikanth is no small ordeal. The action thriller ‘Enemy’ otherwise has a strong buzz and is quite an anticipated film that now, by the looks of it, will have to face a clash with some major, high profile Tamil releases. Only time will tell if these big-ticket films eat into each other’s profits. Regardless, viewers are surely in for a treat with this Diwali theatre bonanza!
