Here’s Why Watching This Oscar Winner On SonyLIV Is A Big Let-Down

The 2023 edition of the Academy Awards were announced recently and the fan favourite multiverse actioner ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ (EEAAO) bagged the maximum number of seven Oscar awards including the ‘Best Picture’ Oscar. And even before EEAAO won them, the movie started streaming in India on the SonyLIV OTT platform from 10th March. You can even watch a 10-minute free preview on the OTT app.

The multiverse action-adventure movie revolves around a worn-out Chinese American immigrant (Michelle Yeoh), who must somehow connect with multiple versions of herself from a different universe to stop a powerful person from wreaking havoc across the multiverse.

A film like ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ is ideally a big-screen experience. For movie goers who were not able to catch the film in theatres, the next best thing for them is watching it on a big-screen (mainly 55” & above) television in their own homes. However, for EEAAO, there is a downside when it comes to getting the first-rate movie watching experience on SonyLIV.

The drawback is that while watching ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ on your TV, the movie watching will be restricted to just the Full HD aka 1080p screen resolution. It means that even if you have a 4k Ultra HD or even a 2k television set, then also you must come to terms with an inferior image quality/ clarity because currently, the SonyLIV app does not support 4k resolution for the movie.

And for a segment of viewers who are very particular about the video display quality resolution and those movie buffs who have an eye for detail, watching a film like ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ on a big-screen TV might prove to be a big let-down. We hope that in the future, SonyLIV will make available higher resolution formats like 2k and 4k for films like EEAAO for a better and more enjoyable binge-watch experience.
