Hidden Gems: Netflix’s ‘Stranger’ Is A K-Drama Worth Checking Out

A Tuesday article this time but a “Hidden Gems” article will always make its way to you guys… somehow… eventually. This time, we are entering the world of K-Drama AKA Korean Drama and checking out a “doozy one” at that. This Korean export, a 2-season TV series currently available for streaming, is a crime thriller drama series. If you guys are new to Korean content, this is a good place to start.

Stranger‘ follows a criminal prosecutor, Hwang Si-mok, who suffers lost his sense of empathy as a young child. His lack of social skills makes him difficult to approach and even more difficult to work with, but it also makes him notice tiny details that other miss – making him an excellent investigator. When a string of murders occurs, Si-mok quickly understands that this is the work of a serial killer. However, while looking into the case, he must fight chaotic corruption within the police department that continuously undermines any kind of investigation.

Enter, Police Lieutenant Han Yeo-jin. She is a non-nonsense, ass-kicking police officer who is prone to bouts of violence. With her help, Hwang Si-mok vows to find the perpetrator within two months, but rumours about his own violent tendencies pop up, which leads to questions about his ability to lead the case. Eventually, he sets out to catch the person who he believes is the real serial killer.
