Hidden Gems: Ninja Assassin Is A Forgotten Bloodfest

In 2009, a neo-noir stylized, martial arts action drama flick, ‘Ninja Assassin‘ came out of nowhere and dominated the global box office. The gore-heavy film has only garnered mixed reviews so far and has been dividing opinions since its release. But if you are looking for a movie with some mind-numbing action, decent plot and some bad-ass ninjas – look no further than ‘Ninja Assassin’.

A warning – this film is definitely an 18+ feature (possibly even a 21+ movie). Not just because the movie explores strong themes such as political corruption, child endangerment and the impact violence has on young children but because of what we had mentioned earlier, the film is a violent forecast (not to be underestimated). While there is not much skin or swearing, the violence in this film is quite over-the-top, which is one of the reasons why critics are so divided with this movie.

‘Ninja Assassin’ follows a young assassin who is forced to undergo brutal ninja training for years. When his close friend gets executed in front of him for trying to leave, he decides to take on the ninja clan leader, so as to set others like him free. He finds himself an ally, in the form of a Europol Agent, Mika Coretti.

The movie stars South Korean singer Rain, “Bond Girl” Naomi Harris, Ben Miles, Rick Yune, Randall Duk Kim, Sung Kang and the aforementioned Sho Kosugi. The story of the film was provided by Matthew Sand while the screenplay was written by Matthew Sand and J. Michael Straczynski. James McTeigue directed the movie.

‘Ninja Assassin’ can be streamed on Hungama.
