High Time OTTs Tap Into The Treasure Of Family Friendly Content

Older generations are often found complaining how in today’s world watching TV or Cinema and now OTT, with family is becoming almost impossible. Earlier, it was different and entertainment through films and shows was thought to be a collective family affair where everyone enjoyed it together.

The content was family friendly back then and not very offensive, abusive, erotic or gruesome for that matter. There was a different kind of prosperity even if resources were limited, when watching movie was not a personal choice but a family event.

As technology grew and devices became abundant, it certainly drew people apart and the situation now is such that every person in a house has their own entertainment needs and wishes to fulfill them in solitude on their very own TV, laptop or mobile. Such is the irony!

But the situation is not all grim. Even today in most homes in tier 2 and tier 3 cities, lunches and dinners are accompanied by TV or cinema while the whole family enjoys a meal together. The tough part though is finding appropriate family friendly content as there is a dearth of good and decent family friendly options, specially when it comes to OTT.

In today’s times when violent and ghastly action is the most sought after genre (‘Kill’, ‘Maharaja’, ‘Raayan’) shows like ‘Panchayat’ and ‘Gullak’ come as a relief and warm your hearts. Moreover, shows or movies with explicit content have a become the norm and that pushes away families who wish to subscribe but are hesitant due to plethora of such content on OTT platforms.

That is why if OTT platforms are looking to expand themselves deep in the Indian market, which they definitely aim to given the immense potential, focusing more on family friendly content is one big factor they will have to consider soon and seriously.
