The Highlander reboot has the Man of Steel himself, Henry Cavill!
According to Deadline, Lionsgate plans to launch sales for the Highlander reboot project at the AFM (American Film Market). The upcoming flick has Cavill as the leading man, who has played ‘The Last Son of Krypton’ for the DCEU and Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s The Witcher series.
Mike Finch has penned down the film’s screenplay. And helmer of the John Wick films, Chad Stahelski, will direct the forthcoming reboot project.
This piece of news is certainly exciting, considering the immense popularity of the Highlander franchise.
The franchise, created by Gregory Widen, kicked off with the first Highlander film (1986), which had Christopher Lambert in the leading role of Connor MacLeod. The movie also starred Sean Connery, Roxanne Hart, and Clancy Brown. Early reactions towards it were highly negative. However, it became a cult movie as time passed by. It is bombastic, cheesy, and a bit absurd, yet people love watching it. The immense prominence of the film spawned four sequels, a live-action spin-off project, an animated series, and an anime.
No plot details have come out yet about the film. But, it is expected to take inspiration from the 1986 original movie.
The upcoming Highlander reboot is expected to have a significant budget, over $100 million, as per Deadline’s latest report. In addition, Lionsgate reportedly wants to commence the film’s production in 2024. Though, this scenario depends upon the ongoing actors’ strike. No other actor has been added to the cast yet except Henry Cavill. Stay tuned for more updates.
