Sister Midnight has already made waves abroad. BAFTA-nominated, Cannes-recognised, and praised by critics like Mark Kermode, it’s Radhika Apte’s “dark comedy that made a big wave in several International film festivals. UK audiences can now buy or rent it on Apple TV, Prime Video, and Google Play. But in India? Still waiting.
That’s frustrating, especially for Indian viewers who got only a limited theatrical release on May 30. The reviews were strong. And yet, while international viewers enjoy it from their living rooms, the home crowd is left out again.
This isn’t new. Indian films, even when led by homegrown talent, often find their digital debut delayed in their own country. It’s a strange paradox, especially for a film set in Mumbai, steeped in local texture, and starring one of India’s most versatile actors.
Media reports suggest Amazon Prime Video may pick it up in India soon. But the lack of official confirmation just adds to the sense that Indian audiences are an afterthought in their own cultural conversation.
Apte plays a young woman unravelling in a mismatched marriage, her descent captured with humour, chaos, and raw honesty. It’s a film that deserves to be seen widely and easily.
Anyway, Binged shall surely keep you posted whenever there is any update on Sister Midnight’s OTT release.
