The Bengali film ‘Bagha Jatin’ is now available to watch on OTT. The movie is streaming on Disney+Hotstar and will also be available to watch in Hindi. ‘Bagha Jatin’ is directed by Arun Roy, a filmmaker known for movies based on the independence struggle and the Bengali reaction to colonialism. He has made very successful films like ‘Egaaro’, ‘Binoy Badal Dinesh’, ‘Hiralal’ and more.
The character Dev plays, is of Jatindranath Mukherjee, popularly known as ‘Bagha Jatin’, one of the most popular freedom fighters from undivided Bengal. Jatindranath was a terror for British police officers and was a leader of ‘Jugantar’ party. There are many legends regarding the life of Jatindranath. It is said that he once fought against a tiger with his bare hands and won and that is how he got his name ‘Bagha’. The movie did not get the response as it was expected, but it was nonetheless a hit.
Dev’s performance was quite convincing as the legendary freedom fighter and if you want to have a lesson at the history of the Jugantar Dal and its adventures, you should not miss the movie. Bagha Jatin also has other actors like Sreeja Dutta, Sudipta Chakraborty, Shoaib Kabeer, Rohaan Bhattacharjee, Carl A. Harte and Alexandra Taylor in the movie and the music is given by Nilayan Chatterjee. The cinematography is handled by Gopi Bhagat.
