After Mandar the Bengali on screen adaptation of the Shakespearean tragedy “Macbeth”, Hoichoi has announced another adaptation from the Classic Storyteller called “Talmar Romeo Juliet” which will be following the journey of Romeo and Juliet.
The post from Hoichoi hints at a “Classic Universe” which indicates there might be a trilogy of Shakespearean tales like of which we have seen done gracefully by the Bollywood director Vishal Bharadwaj.
Anirban Bhattacharya has directed the previous venture “Mandar” which opened to a decent reception from the critics.
The upcoming project is being directed by Arpan Garai and Anirban is in the chair of the creative director this time. Whether the project will add another layer to Hoichoi’s “Classic Universe” or not is a question only time can answer.
Though another on-screen adaptation of a tale that has been adapted and presented to the audience countless number of times might not trigger that much hype unless it does something unique and twisted.
“Mandar” provided a dark, gritty and titillating experience for the audience placed on the backdrop of rural bengal. The characters and their motivations were easy to connect to.
A similar approach might be taken for “Talmar Romeo Juliet”. It will be released on 15th of November in Hoichoi.
One thing is for sure that the OTT platform is trying something different to gain the audience who reject watching such movies in theatres.
