It’s not always that you see Meryl Streep and Nicole Kidman let others have the limelight in a movie or a show, but this time you will. These beautiful legends coupled up with James Corden and Andrew Rannells decide to do whatever they can to give a high school girl a prom she can remember, in the latest Netflix movie, “The Prom”. Releasing on 3rd of December and streaming on Netflix from the 11th of December, The Prom is a feel good musical and inspirational movie that has two storylines but are converged into one.
Broadway stars Dee Dee and Barry are struggling as their expensive broadway show is a big time flop and in dire need to save it from letting it drown themselves. While on the other Angie and Trent are two Broadway actors who are in need of work. While all this is going on, there comes the storyline of Emma, a young High School girl who wants to attend Prom like everyone else with her girlfriend. Even though the Principal is supportive of her and wants her to attend, things don’t go as planned as the head of PTA votes her decision out and she is left to be alone.
This is where our Broadway stars come in, as they get to know about Emma’s plight, they jump in to help her in a hope to revive their careers. As they reach the small town of Edgewater, they make a grand entry and announce that they are here. While they start helping Emma out to give her the prom of her dreams, things start to fall apart on their side too and they must control it before it’s too late.
Normally we would see Meryl Streep and Nicole Kidman be at the centre of the stage, even though here they are at the centre stage too, this time it’s in a different perspective. They let the newcomer Emma (played by Jo Ellen Pellman) take the chair and head them. It’s all about her for them, even though it will focus on them, the movie is strictly going to see the emotions of this girl who was denied a prom and how she will end up getting one of the most magnificent proms of all time.
Introducing Jo Ellen Pellman and starring, Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, James Corden, Andrew Rannells and Keagen Michael Key, the movie is directed by Ryan Murphy. The movie is the real adaptation of the broadway show of the same name, whose rights were bought before the movie started shooting.
This will be one interesting piece of art to watch as we can see two completely distinct stories but in a way that they are connected and making it one emotional journey.
