Horror comedies seem to have become the latest favourite of the industry as Sonakshi Sinha’s ‘Kakuda’ joins the league after Saif Ali Khan’s ‘Bhoot Police’ and Varun Dhawan’s ‘Bhediya’. Filming of Ronnie Screwvala’s ‘Kakuda’ has now begun.
Announcing the commencement of shoot, production house RSVP movies wrote, “Triple trouble on the way!
Get ready for a spooktacular – laughter riot with our homegrown production, #Kakuda!
Shoot begins today”
Marathi filmmaker Aditya Sarpotdar is set to direct ‘Kakuda’. He is known for helming films like ‘Classmates’ and Ritesh Deshmukh starrer ‘Mauli’. Aditya also directed the popular web series ‘The Raikar Case’ streaming on Voot Select. The film whose plot line is under wraps stars Sonakshi Sinha, Ritesh Deshmukh and Saqib Saleem in lead roles.
Reportedly, Sonakshi will play the role of ghost hunter in the film and will be seen romancing with Saqib. Also, the film that has begun shooting in Rajasthan is said to be based on a real life incident.
Horror-comedy as mentioned in the beginning is rapidly becoming the most sought after genre in the industry as more and more filmmakers are venturing into it. These films attempt to tickle one’s funny bones alongside giving chills, making it an interesting and entertaining yet complicated theme to work with. A right balance of the two contrasting genres is a must to make it a success.
Though some recently released horror comedies like Akshay Kumar’s ‘Laxmii’ and Raj Kumar Rao’s ‘Roohi’ were not received very well, it has not deterred the producers and directors from experimenting with the category. One of the most anticipated movie in this genre is Katrina Kaif, ‘Gully Boy’ fame Siddhant Chaturvedi and ‘Dhadak’ fame Ishaan Khattar starrer upcoming film ‘Phone Bhoot’.
Will these latest multi-starrer films be able to revive the convoluted genre is a wait and watch the scene for now.
