The British horror thriller ‘The Strays’ is now streaming on Netflix from today. The film is directed by Nathaniel Martello-White and this is his directorial debut.
The Strays stars Ashley Madekwe and Bukky Bakray in the lead roles and has actors like Jorden Myrie, Samuel Small, Maria Almeida and Justin Salinger in important roles.
The film tells the story of a young girl Neve, who is rich and light skinned despite being black. Neve has a successful job in a local school and lives with her parents peacefully but her peace is hampered when she finds two strangers staring at her outside her window one night. Neve freaks out and tells her friends and family about the man and the woman but nobody believes her. She starts to lose her trust in her own sanity.
Nathaniel Martello-White has stated that this story is inspired from real events and he had heard this story from his mother. His mother knew some biracial lady who had undergone something spooky of the similar kind and the incident inspired the director to write this film.
After films like Get Out, a trend to delve racial identities and discrimination into horror films has started and it is going towards a great direction. ‘The Strays’ is a great take on the genre and you should not miss the movie if you are a horror fan.
