The official confirmation is finally here! Tovino Thomas starrer ‘Minnal Murali’ is going for a digital release on Netflix. Helmed by Basil Joseph, Mollywood’s first ever super hero film ‘Minnal Murali’ will premiere exclusively on Netflix very soon.
There had been strong talks about ‘Minnal Murali’ going to Netflix as we had reported earlier and now the news is confirmed by Netflix itself through a small video announcing the release of the film on the global platform.
The 35 second video features a local eatery where at the end of the counter is placed a small television set with antennas receiving no signal and suddenly when the lightning strikes a thunder logo referring to a superhero appears on the screen. It also mentions that the film will release on the platform in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi and English.
‘Minnal Murali’ stars Tovino Thomas, Aju Varghese, Harisree Ashokan and Guru Somasundaram in prominent roles. The film has been produced by Sophie Paul and Weekend Blockbusters is the production company backing the film. Arun Anirudhan and Justin Mathew have written the film.
Amazon Prime Video has been the frontrunner in case of direct to digital Malayalam film releases like C U Soon, Malik, Drishyam 2 and Home. And now with ‘Minnal Murali’ and most possibly Dulquer Salman’s ‘Kurup’ it looks like Netflix is trying to catch up too. Until now the global streaming giant had only Fahadh Faasil ‘Irul’ as a direct-to-OTT Malayalam film.
While Minnal Murali is confirmed, if Kururp also land at Netflix it would be a great success for the platform when it comes to grabbing the best of regional cinema especially Mollywood which is well known around the country for its exceptional cinema. Both these films have that star factor and are highly anticipated by the audience.
Netflix is yet to reveal the release date for ‘Minnal Murali’ but the news of the film coming to the platform is in itself a great one. After having had its share of rough patches during the production Tovino Thomas’ ‘Minnal Murali’ is finally getting getting a release even if on an OTT platform.
