Streaming giant Disney+Hotstar is known for its mammoth subscriber base and rare monopoly in India. They have more subscribers than the subscribers of all other platforms put together and still, they are working to make it bigger.
If you are unaware, then Disney+ is celebrating “Disney+ Day” where they launch many new titles and give updates about those which are already been announced. Essentially this event belongs to Disney+ and they never make any original Indian content. Rather they just host the content which they make for Marvel, Star Wars, and all.
It is Hotstar that makes original Indian series and all the activities of the platform you see in India are initiated by them. Still, they made full use of Disney+ Day and launched many different titles.
It included a high-octane series which looked interesting. They used #DisneyPlusDay on Twitter and it helped them trend original Indian announcements with all the announcements which took place in the USA.
On the other hand, Netflix was exceptionally slothy in this. A few months back, Netflix India didn’t promote a single title in Netflix Geeked Week. Meanwhile, announcements were going on in India but it was surprising to “not” see mention of any original by Netflix India.
We can’t be sure if it was a case of xenophobia or if Netflix doesn’t believe in the quality of the Indian originals.
But, the marketing approach matters and we must say that Hotstar’s way of using a big event is leaps and bounds better than Netflix’s way. .
