Disney Plus Hotstar has finally revealed the first teaser for its upcoming show ‘Showtime’. The Karan Johar-produced series will premiere on Disney Plus Hotstar sometime in 2024. There’s no other information on the tentative release date or release window for ‘Showtime’ yet.
Karan Johar’s ‘Showtime’ is a series set in the backdrop of the Hindi film industry, lovingly called Bollywood by the masses. The star-studded series takes a dark look at the workings of the film industry, while delving deep into the age-old insider vs outsider debate that is currently rocking Bollywood. Emraan Hashmi plays the quintessential Bollywood superstar in Showtime, while Rajeev Khandelwal plays the outsider / challenger to his throne.
It’s quite ironic that the series ‘Showtime’ is produced by Karan Johar, who’s been in the eye of the insider vs outsider storm, ever since Sushant Singh Rajput’s tragic death in 2020. Karan Johar has often been accused of being the flag-bearer of nepotism in Bollywood, and someone who is partial to film industry insiders, while stymieing the careers of outsiders who dare to dream big in Bollywood.
Besides Emraan Hashmi and Rajeev Khandelwal, the Showtime teaser gives us glimpses of the rest of the cast of the series. Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah apparently plays a filmmaker in the series. Mouni Roy, Mahima Makwana, Shriya Saran, and Vijay Raaz also make their presence felt in the teaser of Showtime.
Showtime is created and written by Sumit Roy. It is directed by Mihir Desai and Archit Kumar, and produced by Karan Johar’s Dharmatic Entertainment. The series marks the web series debut of Bollywood star Emraan Hashmi.
