Indian streaming platform, Hotstar has set a new record, for the most number of viewership for a live telecast event. The Indian Premier League final between Chennai Superkings and Mumbai Indians was viewed by a record 18 million people.
Hotstar has in the process bettered its own record that was previously set by the finals of the same event last year. It was over 10 million. The most fantastic aspect here is that the previous best record feat was breached multiple times this time during the group states with one of the matches garnering over 12 million.
These are staggering numbers without any doubt. But, the date is not yet complete. The overall views of the tournament have surpassed 250 million milestone even before the conclusion of the IPL. It was around 202 million the previous year.
With the growing market and increasing competition among streaming platforms Netflix and Amazon Prime for vying the audience attention, the numbers coming in are more than encouraging. Currently, Hotstar, owned by Disney is way ahead of the competitors with active users of over 300 million. Others have less than 30 million users which highlight the domination level.
